Southern Cal Kennels
Buyer Beware

At the very bottom of this page find out how to know if your vet is honest, or if your getting ripped off, we also have some info about the Ca Puppy Lemon Law!

Let's start with learning about advertising. We advertise on several other web sites that are not our web site. We pay to advertise with them, because they have good search engine placement. These web sites have not inspected us or the other breeders that advertise with them.

So just because you find a breeder on a so-called "Premium Breeders List", doesn't mean all the breeders on there are ethical. The breeders all pay to advertise. Last I heard Goldendoodles.com was charging $500 a year to advertise on their web site. None of those web sites inspect the breeders facilities to be sure the breeders are what they claim. I even caught a breeder using pictures of one of my dogs on their web site and when I alerted the Premium Breeders List and also Goldendoodles.com, because that breeder advertises on both of those web sites (or at least they did at that time), neither of those web site owners did anything about it. They didn't remove that breeder, even though that breeder was caught red-handed with a picture of MY dog on their web site. The breeder even stated on their web site that it was their dog and the mother to their puppies and get this, the dog was a MALE! Yes MY dog and a MALE!

UPDATE: Sharon the owner of the "Premium Breeders List" sent me an email threatening me that if I did not remove this information from my web site, that she would retaliate by telling people that I was just a disgruntal breeder that was kicked off her web site, can you even believe that, anyone that wants proof I have all her emails and our correspondance. I was never kicked off her web site! In fact I even have emails from her telling me what a great breeder I am. Both Sharon and also Blue the the owner of Goldendoodles.com, they were both given solid undeniable proof from me that the dog on that breeders web site was my dog, yet both of them did not remove that breeder from advertising on their web sites! So please do not trust a web site that is being paid by their advertisers! Go see for yourself or talk to people that have been to the breeders place in person!!!

Here's a good example of a web site that I myself would stay away from, when I called them I found out that they tack on their commission to the cost of the dog. I've also been told that you don't get any information about the breeder until AFTER you buy your puppy, but even then I'm not sure that you get any information about the breeder at all. So in my opinion I'd consider them DOG BROKERS, because they are selling the puppies for the breeder, you are not in direct contact with the breeder. Where most other web sites, like the ones we advertise on, they do not sell our puppies for us, they just allow us to advertise on their web site. We are always in direct contact with the customer. Read more about DOG BROKERS farther down on this page. This company has many different domain names depending on the breed and the area they are marketing to:

http://www.californiagoldendoodlebreeders.com

http://www.losangelesgoldendoodlebreeders.com

http://www.californiagoldendoodlepuppies.com

They have great marketing skills, attracting people by their area, by owning domain names that come up with that state or city in their domain name. But are the breeders really from that area, ask them for proof and find out! If they tell you that they do not work with Puppy Mills, then ask them if they have been to the breeders place in person, if they have actually inspected the breeder personally. Think about it, could they really inspect dozens upon dozens of breeders scattered all over the country in person? I'm sure their answer will be no!

So obviously I can not warn the public enough about getting puppies shipped to them, especially from the Midwest and PA. Find a LOCAL breeder, a breeder within driving distance from you, so you can meet the parents, see where the puppies are raised. Anyone can make a fancy web site, even a puppy mill can make a nice web site with "fake stolen pictures".

And why do you think the majority of breeders are in the Midwest, because they have no rules, no regulations, it's easy for puppy mills to do business there.

Sure they are cheaper, of course they are, but remember that ol' saying you get what you pay for! And just because they test their dogs with the OFA doesn't mean they aren't a puppy mill. Testing dogs doesn't cost that much money and they know it will sell their puppies faster and for more money. Plus a breeder can test one of their dogs and say it's a different dog, so one dog can pass testing for many dogs, testing is not fool proof!

If you have no choice but to have your puppy shipped, then at least pick a breeder from a state with very strict dog and breeding laws like California. And even in California you'll still hear about puppy mills being shut down, some will still slip through the cracks, but at least here they eventually get caught. In most other states no one even cares how the dogs are kept.

But you should always be very wary of the breeders that ship all their puppies, no matter what area they are in, because that means that no one ever goes there to see the conditions or meet the dogs in person. In fact pretend you want to fly out there to meet the parents, to see exactly where the puppies are raised, where all their dogs are kept, and then see what they say. Ask for 2-3 references of people who have been there and purchased a puppy in person.

You can talk to more than dozens of our clients on Facebook, clients that have been to our home/kennel in person, because most of our clients are local. Click here to become a fan and join us on Facebook: Facebook Page

Also most of the professional dog trainers listed on our "Favorite Links" page have been here in person and if not then their clients have. Please feel free to contact any of those trainers. I doubt you will find another breeder referred by more professional dog trainers and veterinarians than we are.

Another thing, don't be fooled when a breeder says they are USDA licensed, do you even know what that means, that should be a red flag right there! All puppy mills are required to be USDA licensed. We are not USDA licensed, but we are licensed by LA Animal Control and the State Board of Equalization (SBOE). Please read our "About Us" page for more info on proper licensing before you buy a puppy.

And beware of DOG BROKERS, claiming to work with only the best breeders... HOG WASH, no breeder would have someone re-selling their puppies for them, third party selling! If the seller is a third party, then they are considered a dog broker by CA law!

An example of a dog broker with a store front is a place in La Crescenta, CA that sells any breed you want, Goldendoodles, Cockapoos, all different breeds, they are DOG BROKERS (see picture below). Do you actually believe them when they tell you that they only work with top breeders, come on are you really that naive??? If they don't own the parents to the puppies, then they are DOG BROKERS and where do dog brokers get their puppies, PUPPY MILLS!

Where do pet stores get their puppies, from dog brokers that get them from puppy mills. Click here for more info on puppy mills: http://www.prisonersofgreed.org

Here is another web site I just happened to stumbled upon, they even go as far as saying they do not work with puppy mills and dislike puppy mills, YAH RIGHT!

http://www.affordablepup.com

Where do all pet stores get their puppies... PUPPY MILLS! Your not "saving" the puppy from it's cage, your keeping the pet stores in business, so they can put more puppies in cages!

I think they (Denise & Steve the owners) have a new phone number now.

Did you know that you are only protected by the CA Puppy Lemon Law if the breeder lives in CA, same goes for each puppy lemon law that is offered by each state, even more reason to buy from home! If I have a puppy shipped to me from another state, then I am not protected by CA law or by the law of the other state. So I would have no laws to protect me!

*Vets* how do we know which ones are honest, well an easy way is to ask them their vaccination protocol. Vets that over vaccinate, or vaccinate with vaccines that are unnecessary is a sure sign of greed.

Vaccinations are a multi million dollar industry and easy money for any vet. Here are some web sites to help me explain about this to you. Irving Pet Hospital says to vaccinate every 3 years (not as bad as yearly). But Critter Fixer Pet Hospital is the better vet (the better vets are harder to come by these days), they explain the truth about vaccinations. Some vets even suggest vaccinating with boosters "yearly", those are the really dishonest vets! Click on the links below to read their vaccination protocols.
